Family Barnes left snowy Virginia for not-so-snowy Maine last week for winter holiday. It did snow -- a lot -- a few days ago (the flakes are still coming down), enough for us to buy some sleds at the Bethel hardware store, which if we're smart, we'll sell on the Virginia black market. Because let's face it: now that we own sleds it will not snow again in Virginia. Ever. It has been a week of adventures: grandpa needed an emergency root canal, Harry
got a cold, we lost power in the cabin for most of Thursday (like..uh...BRRRRRRRRRRRRR) and when we thought all was lost, Paul and I handed off the babies and stole to the outdoor hot tub where we sat under an umbrella in a snow storm and watched the beautiful flakes come down in the evening light. We have enjoyed a lot of sledding, mountains of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and Oreos, baking homemade pizza -- we've almost mastered the dough! ( I have easily gained two pounds) -- and nights of winter Olympics watching, which just seems right in a snow storm. And on Wednesday, just as the snow began to fall, a local photographer, Carol Savage, (worth her weight in gold), came to take some family pictures. They are outstanding. These are from her blog. I feel a large order coming on grandma.
It has not been the perfect get-away, nope, but it has been nice to get away. We return home in a few days but not before more adventures, I'm sure.

"Mainely Complicated" sounds like it could be an all-star romantic comedy centered around a ski lodge...get writing Leef!
I have a friend who writes screenplays....I'm going to get her right on that. Only this trip was definitely not in the romantic genre. More like madcap calamity.
